Nora and Betsy have made some excellent points in the last 24 hours that I think deserve mentioning.

-- the regular time together is an attempt to keep control over our group. it's clear our group could slowly disintegrate but trying to hold sand tighter is bloody stupid. instead, maintaining our individual relationships will secure our group better than a forceful, obligated time together.

--betsy is the last one in our group to throw tantrums. she is. and yet we didn't make alice in wonderland happen, and rarely tiptoe around her. she deserves better than that? yes :) so... Friday afternoon after Somerville papers are in -- Alice in Wonderland? The weather report looks good and if some of you can't make it, that's ok. :) it will happen.

quote from henri nouwen care of allison:

"no friend or lover, no husband or wife, no community or commune will be able to put to rest our deepest cravings for unity and wholeness. and by burdening others with these divine expectations, of which we ourselves are often only partially aware, we might inhibit the expression of free friendship and love and invoke instead feelings of inadequacy and weakness.

frienship

and

love

cannot develop in the form of an anxious clinging to each other.

they ask for genle fearless space in which we can move to and from each other.

as long as our loneliness brings us together with the hope that together we no longer will be alone, we castigate each other with our unfulfilled and unrealistic desires for oneness, inner tranquility and the uninterrupted experience of communion."
